MEALS ON WHEELS NEEDS OUR HELP!
March is March For Meals month, a nationwide campaign of Meals on Wheels America to raise awareness about senior hunger and isolation. The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission serves about 1,243 senior citizens locally who might not have anything to eat otherwise.
How can we help? When senior citizens are referred to the program, they often have no food in their homes and it takes a little time to get them set up with weekly deliveries of meals into their homes. To combat hunger during this time, nonperishable items are brought into the home. The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission is asking for help in gathering protein rich single serving items such as canned tuna or chicken, canned soups rich in protein, or pasta and meat mixtures (like Chef Boyardee). They also could use small servings of canned vegetables.
What are we going to do? For the month of March the youth group is sponsoring a competition between the Methodist Men and the Methodist Women. To begin with boxes will be placed in the church on Sunday, March 7 to begin collecting the needed items.
Our immediate community needs our help. This is one tiny way we can show the love of Jesus to those around us. Please get involved.
